Bersih 3.0: From Afar
Monday, April 30, 2012

Like most Malaysians out there, I've been keeping myself updated with news of how Bersih 3.0 is unfolding since yesterday. After all, it's one of the biggest Malaysia related rallies in history, drawing tens of thousands of crowds in Malaysia alone (estimated 25000 in KL alone, not including those from other states like Penang and Sabah) while protests were also held in a dozen of locations around the world.

Looking at the photos and stories from people joining the rally reminded me of how I felt a few years ago when I read the news about the clash between the Reds and the Yellows in Thailand. I remember thinking how different Malaysia is from Thailand, where mass anti-government protests by the people were rare and unheard of.

Well, not anymore I guess. The protests on Saturday has shown that Malaysians too, are capable of going out to the streets demanding  for their rights. And we can do it better too, with Malaysians all over the world joining in. I can't help but feel a bit sad though when I look at the amount of oversea Malaysians joining in for the Bersih rally. Seems like Malaysia's biggest export is Malaysians after all.

I guess when you push the people far enough, they would retaliate. Despite what the mainstream media and how some people would say, I don't think that the Bersih 3.0 could be simply dismissed as merely an opposition's ploy or act of desperation. Not when you have such a massive turnout for this event.

An aerial view of KL (picture taken from Malaysian Insider)

Still, I doubt that there would be any conclusive outcomes from this rally. Letting you gather in large numbers is one thing, actually listening to your demands is another. The government could simply let the people come, sit a while, vent their anger and that's it. I just let you guys be happy for one day just to let off some steam. Tomorrow would just return to be just another normal day.

The thing is, to make Bersih truly successful, we can't let the fire die down. Demands have to be continuously made until they are met, or there need to be something harsher to put pressure on the government. The purpose of the rally should not be forgotten. It's more than just gathering one day to voice our disappointment, the pressure must be constantly maintained on the government to let them know that the people are serious.

We are serious alright

The rally is far from perfect, that I have to admit. There were violent clashes between the protesters and the police at the end of the day, and the evidence points at the actions of a few protesters breaching the barricades despite being told not to do so thus giving the police reason to retaliate, and the Bersih dissenters are already using that to point fault at the organizers and the rally.

Still, when you have such a huge amount of people gathering, deindividualization is bound to occur. It's a psychological phenomena well documented all around the world.

There will definitely be unhappy and angry people and there will definitely be people looking for trouble down there. And even though the rally is somehow marred by the violent stories, there were also instances where my faith in humanity is restored. For example, despite how some claim that the rally is used by the opposition parties to instigate and to cause trouble, it was them who stood their ground the firmest when there were temptations to act otherwise.

In the highly popularized incident where a police car was over-flipped, it was PKR's Jingga 13 that prevented the mob from lashing out on the two police officers. I don't know the exact details of the incident but I feel that had Jingga 13 not shielded the cops from the angry mob, I think the outcome might have been a lot worse than just a overturned car. It really boils down to what you want to see in the rally.

When you have a rally you're bound to have angry people

No matter who's side you're on, I think that there's a lot to be learned from Bersih 3.0. For starters I think that Malaysians have grown much from the days where we just sit idly by snickering at our neighbors who are having political problems back in their country, for example Thailand or the Philipines. After more than 50 years in rule, we realize that our current government is not as clean and fair as what they claim, and our rights, peace and wealth we used to know is slowly eroding away. Some choose to leave, to search for a better alternative elsewhere, people like me for example, while others choose to fight for their rights, which is where Bersih 3.0 comes in.

It's rocky path from here onwards but one that perhaps can lead to a brighter future. I just hope that the people who are responsible for squandering our wealth away wouldn't just pack their bags and go hide in some remote countries one day.

When I Attempt an Essay
Friday, April 27, 2012

Today, I'm going to show you the many stages of Lukey when he attempts to write a essay assignment in attempt to explain why he has never gotten a decent mark for any of his writing assignments in the past three years, despite his over obsession with his blog.

Not the 500-1000 words ones that you'd normally get in secondary school or A-Levels, mind you, but rather the ones 3000-10000 words that professors in university love to give you, along with all those citations and shit. Journal articles, for example, is a real killer.

So there you have it. The six stages that I normally go through in my assignment writing process. Do you go through the same process? Or is it completely different? I would imagine that for those people who always score an A for their assignments, there would be only one stage for the, the write-without-rest-until-it's-finished-red-bull-fueled-stage.

It's not only assignments writing that I have problems with, to be honest, in fact for anything school or work related, the similar patterns emerge. But when it comes to things like gaming, then it would be adrenaline-filled-non-stop-sessions-even-though-i'm-sleepy stage for me. If only I can transfer some of my gaming energy to studying, maybe I would have been the top student by now.

But then again, I would prefer to give chance to other people. Let them score instead of me. Ain't I kind?

The amount of exam posts is too damn high!
Thursday, April 26, 2012

One thing about final exams for Arts students in NUS is the endless writing. You're given two hours for two to three questions and then you're expected to write, write and write non-stop for that two hours given.

Somehow you feel like your entire grade depends on how much words that can flow out of your hand in that limited number of time. The person in front, behind and beside you are writing furiously too and you can't help but to try and write as much as possible to compete with them. Maybe to write even more than them.

And when another student raises to take another paper, you feel more pressured. You can't help but to wonder if there's is so much to write about in the first place? You have already used four pages for your essay and there's two blank pages left and yet the other student can at least write at least three pages more than you.

You start to panic. You stopped thinking.

"Fuck this shit," you say, and began writing anything that pops out into your head. Relevant or not, supportive or not, you just throw it in. In fact, you start throwing everything in, hoping that even if your earlier points do not make it, at least some of the points you're writing now will. Or at least the lecturer will give you some sympathy marks for writing so much.

And at the end of two hours, you have a pretty much swollen hand thanks to the extreme pressure that you used to grip your pen while writing. The you start to think to yourself whether there's an easier way to write without feeling so tortured. But then you decide maybe next exam only you'll start worrying about it. Since this exam has ended, you decide that you should at least relax for a day.

That's how all my essay exams go.

Now to find my hand back.

Happens Every Time
Tuesday, April 24, 2012

Yep, happens every time I get an MCQ exam. No matter much or how little I prepared, there's always some shooting required. But I'm not complaining. Give me MCQ over essay any time. I really do prefer shooting rather than trying to come up with a good argumentative essay that you would never know what grades it would turn up. At least with MCQs you can determine the chances of you getting correct or wrong for each question. And at least you have a chance of surviving.

In essay, when you don't know what the question is asking, you're as good as dead.

The missing lukeyishandsome.com domain

The same could be said for those pesky revisions too

The dreaded final exams finally started today for me. Not so dreaded, actually, because after six semesters of doing the same thing over and over again for all of your modules, you tend to get used to it. The same old format of you as the miserable, deprived of sleep student, sitting in a exam hall, trying to vomit out every single fact that you have studied for in the past six months in two hours time. Every single exam. Who knew the paper and pen testing method can be so universally used for every single subject out there?

No matter where you're from, if you have been in school before, experience like this is very normal

On other more depressing news (yes, there are news more depressing than exam, and I'm about to tell you, excited?), the good folks at Exabytes (and I'm saying that with loads of sarcasm, in case you didn't get it) decided to take their own sweet time with giving me my blog domain back, despite me having already paid them for one year subscription.

They are saying something like my website is not hosted on their domain etc etc and despite my emails to them numerous times, their best rate of reply is just one email per day. ONE. I mean seriously? How hard is it to type to let me know what's wrong and what seems to be the problem?

To make matters worse, search engines like Google seem to have a big aversion towards websites with a .blogspot URL. Since going down on Saturday, my blog has dropped from a few hundred hits per day to only less than a 100 now.

My oh so horrible nightmare of the week

Even the stock market crash did not look that bad.

Like they said, free stuff can never be good. I got my domain free of charge two years ago from Exabytes as part of their promotion (but I switched to a paying customer last year, although I sort of downgraded my plan) and now that I'm having problem, it takes forever to solve it. Furthermore, I can switch to any other hosting company because the domain is sort of under the ownership of Exabyte. Which means that I can't do anything but to suck thumb and wait for them to decide to reply my email.

What the people at Exabytes say they see

What I see

How it really is

To all aspiring bloggers out there who just wants a simple blog based on established blogging platforms like Blogger, don't ever fall for the same mistake as me. Never host your domain with an external company. Exabytes charge me SGD 22 for a year hosting while Google, should you choose to go with it, only charges USD 10 for a year worth of hosting, which is only around 12 to 14 SGD.

And for all I know, being integrated with Blogger itself, I doubt Google hosting service would have problems such "our servers suddenly decided to take your website" down when you least expect it, causing you to lose hundreds of visitors at one go. Oh the horror.

That's right, lesson learned. If the "good folks" at Exabytes decide to continue taking their own sweet time, I guess I might just as well switch the website to lukeyishandsome.net instead of .com. Sigh.

I tink I taw a King Leoric!
Sunday, April 22, 2012

le Leoric waiting for le reincarnation ulti spell to kick in

Yes, I did! Yes, I did! I did taw a King Leoric in Diablo 3!

Okay, so I admit I have not been a real fan of Diablo. And that I have not been doing things that I am supposed to be doing, like studying. In fact, I've been spending the weekend like most gamers out there in light of Blizzard's recent announcement of the Diablo 3 Open Beta Weekend, furiously clicking the login button over and over again in hopes of accessing the server and cursing every time they decide to bring the server down due to 'technical' issues.

You can't blame me though. The entire gaming world is abuzz with the upcoming release of Diablo 3. After all, its predecessor, Diablo 2, had been one of the world's most popular game once upon a time ago.

I did try playing Diablo 2 once, how I started it I never know, but I suspected it might have something to do with the peer pressure back then, and I thought it's only logical for me to play Diablo 3 too. Although I must say I never got to finish the Diablo 2 game and I had no idea what was going on in the second game too because I was still a kid back then.

Still, like the last time, the peer pressure is just too much to bear for this time round, with hordes of my friends saying how excited they are about the release of the third installment for the game and naturally, I followed suit just too look cool and not be left out during conversations. Yes, peer pressure has always been a defining force in my life.

And to look cool, I created a female barbarian and named her ChiChiBi. Friends call me CCB

In just two days, aside from the hours spent trying to log in to the game, I have killed King Leoric several times over (I guess he's pretty mad over it), leveled up two characters to the max beta level, trying going for all the beta achievements and got myself a few gold level equipments. In essence, I wasted my entire weekend on the game.

I guess I should just become a monk.

A Day Full of Wrongs

Hi. It's a bad day today. All the things that can go wrong sort of went wrong today. Well at least for my blog if you noticed.

For some strange reasons the company that has been hosting my blog's domain for more than a year now, Exabytes, decided to go offline today. Which means that you can no longer access lukeyishandsome(dot)com at lukeyishandsome.com and that further means that every website that once listed that address will no longer lead to redirects to my blog. And that would lead to a few thousand drops in visits, which is quite sad if you ask me.

Maybe the people at Exabytes think that I'm no longer as handsome as I claim to be and decided that they would find someone else whom they think is more worthy to carry the lukeyishandsome.com URL. Preferably someone who is not only handsome, but also has the magic power to make things float and owns a damn badass lightsaber.

Lukeyishandsome. And he owns a lightsaber that can cut you in half if you do not read his blog

Oh well, at least they released Diablo 3 today. I guess I'm more suited to be a hardcore gamer rather than a hardcore blogger. Time to save the world while waiting for Monday to come. And to the people at Exabytes, thanks for ruining my Saturday.

We're Just Like You, Except That We're Hot
Friday, April 20, 2012

Hot girls have it easy in life right? After all, one cannot deny the importance of looks and first impressions in life. They're popular, they have hordes of admirers and they tend to get by easier in life. I'm sure you've heard of guys willing to do anything for hot and pretty girls before, like giving them credit cards, taking them on a worldwide tour, stuff like that. Even psychology research has found that if you're good looking, you have a higher chance at receiving a lighter sentence from a court as compared to your not so eye pleasing peers. Yep, the hot people have it easy in life.

Or is it?

According to two "hot girls" who goes by the name Double Take, hot girls have their own problems too, which is exactly what their song, titled Hot Problems, is trying to portray. Dubbed as the next Rebecca Black, or even worst than Rebecca Black, because you have two of them, their song tells the story of the problems 'hot girls' face, such as friends backstabbing them those type of stuff. It has received over a million views in just four days and may be on the way to more.

As compared to Rebecca Black's Friday, the people who produced this video, Old Bailey Productions, did not even bother to auto-tune the girls, which resulted in some sort of off key off tune music video.

The song is 3 minutes worth of the two girls trying to praise themselves through their monotonous singing which by the time the song ends, you don't know whether to facepalm, jump off the building or just rip off your ears. I'll let you judge the lyrics for yourself. The italics in brackets were the result of my reflex reaction to bullshit those incredibly highly egoistic phrases.

Our hot girls singer, Double Take

Hot Problems by Double Take (Lyrics)

Look at me and tell me the truth
What do you do
When people don't know what we go through
They see my blonde hair, blue eyes and class (really?)
But they don't know that I have a really big heart

Please, don't get me wrong
I know that I'm hot (really x2?)
But textbook perfection really takes a lot (and yet your singing voice is like...)
When guys call my phone
And girls call me names
But like Miley said I can't be tamed

Hot girls we have problems too
We're just like you
Except we're hot, hot, hot hot
The world needs to open their eyes (and close their ears)
And realize... we're not perfect
And sometimes we lie (like how you say you're hot)

I got the look, I got the butt
But those things don't make me a slut (but this video does)
Boys call me stuck up
Girls say I'm conceited
On behalf of all hot girls
Those comments aren't needed (what you need is a club to the head)

Just cause I'm pretty, I have to be dumb (by posting up a video like this)
I don't care bout wits, I just wanna have fun
People start rumours, and say things about me
Funny thing is I didn't go to the party (because they watched your video on Youtube)

Hot girls we have problems too
We're just like you
Except we're hot, hot, hot hot
The world needs to open their eyes (and close their ears! sorry just can't resist)
And realize... we're not perfect
And sometimes we

Hot girls we have problems too
We're just like you
Except we're hot, hot, hot hot
The world needs to open their eyes
And realize... we're not perfect (in singing)
And sometimes we lie

(RAP)
Why oh why can't you see
You are all just like me
We make mistakes and get in trouble (maybe it has something to do with your above sentence saying something about you being dumb?)
Now you know our hot girls trouble

Hot girls we have problems too
We're just like you
Except we're hot, hot, hot hot
The world needs to open their eyes
And realize... we're not perfect
And sometimes we

Hot girls we have problems too
We're just like you
Except we're hot, hot, hot hot
The world needs to open their eyes
And realize... we're not perfect
And sometimes we lie

Just kidding, we're perfect

Yep, that sum up my feelings just about right

And for those who wants to take a look at the video. Brace yourselves, some not so good singing is coming.

I don't know the purpose behind the video, maybe the two girls are sick of people constantly criticizing them and decided to come up with a retaliatory video, maybe they did all the bad singing on purpose to get famous or maybe it's some sort of publicity stunt for some marketing campaign. But it's interesting to speculate. The account responsible for uploading the video has only one video under their account so it's highly suspicious. A quick hunt through Google reveals that perhaps that the video is made just for the sole purpose of making it famous (thus the bad singing but with a polished background music and video editing).

And I must say some people are better and quicker at investigative work than me. Check out this website http://milowent.blogspot.com/2012/04/hot-problems.html for a speculation of who's behind the video, if you're interested.

Looking at how fast the video went viral gave me a very interesting idea of how internet fame roughly works nowadays. Instead of making yourself good, you intentionally go bad. Or worse. Do something that is completely opposite of the good spectrum. Sing badly, play the instrument badly, write badly or take ugly pictures. It takes much less effort than actually trying to be good at something. There's no need for practice, no time wasted and you still can enjoy the same or perhaps even more amount of fame.

Which got me thinking. Maybe I can do something like...

Yep, speaking of which, Nuffnang and Cathay wants the contestants to "create a fun and creative way of introducing yourself or your team! SING, DANCE, DO A SKIT! Anyway you think best represents yourselves!". For a guy who can't sing, dance nor tell jokes like Russell Peters on stage. this is quite the problem. Not to mention that it's two days to exams.

Maybe I'll just do the Ultraman Dance that I did last time for iTalentstar. Gotta find the song though.

Once upon a time, when I was required to think of a 15 minute performance. Looked pretty silly... but dependable

Or I could pull a Shin Chan. Where he does a skit with only himself acting as multiple characters.

Or I could do a parody of this song, called Handsome Problems.

Or I can just jump off the building and suicide. Suggestions? Or help?

A Compilation
Wednesday, April 18, 2012

To be honest, I have no idea why am I doing this. I first heard the news from a friend, saying something about a friend who tweeted about a friend who just recently passed away. Death have always been an intriguing topic for me. Back in my secondary school days, when I was still in Sec 1, I lost a friend to a swimming accident. The experience felt so surreal to me. I remember attending his funeral, thinking that how our class would be less noisy now, how there's one less football player during PE lessons and find myself wondering the question of life and death itself.

Out of curiosity, I decided to do a search of his name in Twitter and in Facebook, to see how he is in real life, to understand how it feels in these type of situations and to see how do people deal with a lost of a friend. Often in movies, we see people grieving, some take hope while others live in denial when it comes to losing a loved one. And there was I, reading tweet after tweet, post after post of him, written by friends of his. Each of it has their own story to tell, their own experience with him and somehow, through those posts, I'm getting to know more about him indirectly too.

Before I knew it, I was hitting the PrtScr button after each page and saving it down. I have no idea why I was doing it but somehow I wanted it to be sort of like a tribute to him. And because each of the post was unique, I don't want it to be lost. It's as if the memory of him lives through each of the posts. And after one hour, these are what I got:

I remember reading somewhere about death and social media before. How although someone is gone, our Facebook profile, our Twitter account and our blog still look the same. The memories, photos and life of the person is immortalized in their profiles, never changing and stays the same way as how it was left.

I don't know you Dom, but reading all the tweets, the wall posts about you, I know you're one awesome friend who will be greatly missed. Rest in peace, Dominique Sarron Lee.

Feeling like a rat
Tuesday, April 17, 2012

Study week. Or also known as reading week. Or study week to others. The only week when the library is the most popular place to hang out. When studying is suddenly everyone's favorite activity while we nervously anticipate the impending judgement day. Exams. And yet here am I again, going against the trend, choosing to blog instead of studying.

And in line with the spirit of doing anything but studying, I've also been sending countless of internship applications online. Although the three months semester break is officially classified as the vacation period by university administration, in reality it's more like the prepare yourself for the working world and making your resume look nice period.

Instead of doing what people normally do during vacations like enjoying life or taking the time to do what we want, students are scurrying to apply for internships, to find work or to do anything else that can make their resume look nice. Because we know that if we don't, we would lose out to our peers who are busying doing tons of internships. After all, when it comes to securing your job (as I have found out from recent months), companies view internships seriously. If two candidates have the same resume, but one has an additional internship period, that candidate would surely be chosen over the one that did not went for internship during his/her tree months vacation.

Which is quite sad though, if you ask me. Because after one year of intense studying, you'd think that you'd be able to finally to relax, take a deep breath and do the things that you want. Maybe volunteer in a home. Go traveling. Or pick up a new skill. Sadly, this is not often the case.

I have a friend who recently went to see one of our university career counselors. He's looking for a job and was hoping that the counselor would advice him on his resume. Now I've known this friend for quite long already, three years to be exact. I've worked with him before and I know he's a capable person, one whom you would be lucky to call a colleague.

The trouble is this. He's a Business major and when it comes to finding a job as a Business graduate, the number of internships you have is everything. The more, the better. Even first year business students are applying en masse for internships during their summer vacation. However, my friend do not do that. Instead, he chose instead to participate in our hall's rag, building a float over three months to showcase to the public.

When the he met the counselor, the counselor immediately dismissed him, saying that there's a very low chance of him securing a job because the number of internships he has done is not enough, even saying something like doing rag is not important for his resume. Of course, my friend was shocked. How can the counselor judge him by saying that he has no chance merely by the number of internships he has? And from how I see it, participating in rag was surely not a waste of time. There are so many skills to pick up, welding, engineering, and the friendships you gain from that three months is one that lasts through time.

Compared with some other friends I know whom went for internships, all they were asked to do were to do filing, data entry and menial tasks such as photocopying. How can filing and data entry be a more valuable experience than learning to build a float that is showcased to the public and for events as big as Chingay? Honestly, I have no idea.

How many internships teaches you skills to build something like this

Looking at how much emphasis is placed on getting you ready for work, I can't help but to feel that instead of a learning place, university is more like a factory. A factory that churns out workers that are ready to be absorbed into the workforce once you graduate. Instead of learning or gaining knowledge, you are trained and taught skills that matter in the workplace so that when you graduate, you can immediately start working. Programs that add on to this, such as internships, is an added advantage.

Although I don't deny that a lot of people enter university in hopes of finding a better work, I don't think that the sole purpose of university education is for you to secure a job. Isn't university a place where you explore your interests, find your passion and open up your mind? A place for higher pursuit of knowledge? But somehow, it's more like a job training facility now where you attempt to produce a best looking resume in the three to four years you are here at university so that a big multi-national company would hire you.

In fact, looking at the amount of people cramped in the library now, furiously trying to cram up endless facts into their brain, I can't help but to feel if I'm the only person who feels this.

Life is a rat race, ain't it? All of us enter it, trying desperately to beat each other, to outsmart each other so that by the end of the day, we would be able to get a larger portion of the cheese reward. We cannot afford to stop and smell the air, enjoy the sights of life because if we did, other rats would overtake us. After all, the rat that runs the most and the fastest would usually win. But then again, all of us would still be rats, subject to the endless race that is imposed upon us.

The Law of Ueki: One of my favorite animes
Monday, April 16, 2012

Whenever anyone ask me about my favorite animes, The Law of Ueki will always be one of them. I had my fair share of animes growing up, there was Bleach, Ranma, One Piece, Naruto and all kinds of other awesome animes but somehow, I just couldn't find one that could affect me as much.

While the storyline might be generic, about a seemingly normal boy gaining some sort of power so that he can defeat the bad guys, I find that the themes explored by the anime to be reflective of the life questions that we encounter every day.

For starters, I admire Ueki. I admire his will and passion to fight, so much so that even though he may get knocked down several times and is injured to the point of near death, he could still find the will to stand up and not giving up the fight until the very last moment. Every time I see him fight, I couldn't help but wonder if I could bring myself to do the same if I'm in the same situation. Seeing how strong he is during each fight, choosing to see it through the very end despite how hopeless the situation might be, it inspires me to want to be like him. It inspires me to not give up and to hold on despite how hopeless a situation might be, because sometimes all it takes to make a difference is a little faith.

I admire his naive view of people, despite what their background or even species might be. In our world today, we are often told to be wary of strangers. Whenever someone offers us something, we would often question their motives and would rather choose to be skeptical than accepting. Where others tend to judge, Ueki sees rather the true person itself, choosing to rather accept and trust. Some might call him stupid but his actions seem to remind of a person who lived quite a long time ago who befriended everyone without judging them. If our world had more people like Ueki, we would be less suspicious of each other and be involved in much less squabbling and distrust.

Although the character may be idealistic and a fictional creation, I can't help but to feel inspired by his actions sometimes. He never questions the passion in which he fights from and he never gives up in the things he believed in, no matter how difficult it might seem. For someone like me who gives up at the slightest hint of trouble, choosing rather avoid rather than to confront, I learned from his that you can never really know your limits and you can never really achieve what you want if all you ever do is to run away from obstacles.

Besides that, I also find how the antagonists are shaped in the anime. Each antagonist have their own world view which is highly similar to the ones we usually see in the real life, with one saying about how ends justify means and as long as you reach your goal, nothing matters. Or the one that says power is the only thing that should matter while everything else relative. Or another one who argues that only the strong people can rule and if you cannot be strong, you will only serve the strong. Or how you should only trust yourself in the world because others would just stab you in the back.

All these are reflective of some world views that we might encounter in the world which I myself have heard some of my friends boasting about before. I love how the anime shatters each and everyone of them and shows us that in the end, what matters in the end is the friendship and the passion you have.

I also love how the battles are mostly of wits and strategy, not just you evolving into a more sophisticated version of something else. It is much more interesting to watch than animes where the battles are about who having a bigger sword because it makes you think and guess. It also teaches us that strength is not the sole determinant of a conflict and that wits matter a lot too.

In essence, I love the way how this anime exhorts us to stay true to our true selves and as long as we do not give up and remain true to our beliefs, we can achieve our dream. It teaches us the power of believing in your friends, even though the world today may say otherwise. Few animes can live up to this one, that I can tell you.

le DotA 2

A friend decided to give me a DotA 2 invite randomly one day. And thanks to him, I've been playing the game ever since.

Not a good thing though, since the exams are just around the corner. Although I made a vow to attend all classes and be disciplined this semester, somehow something happened along the way and I ended up with perhaps the worst semester ever. I've skipped like don't know how many classes and honestly, I have no idea of what's going on in some modules.

Yeah, I know that DotA 2 is a cheap ripoff of the original version but somehow, I find the game more enjoyable and addictive. Maybe it's because the high amount of newbies inside, which relatively made me look more pro, or maybe it's the graphics that seem to give a whole different feeling when playing the game. Or it could be the system that tracks down your heroes progress and the nicer people in general playing the game.

I don't know. Somehow it just makes me want to go back for just one more game and that would usually lead to a whole load of time wasted.

You know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna send in my computer for repair this Monday so I'll have no distraction when I want to study. Not disciplined enough? Get rid of the distraction. Problem solved.

I Can be Your Next Online Sensation: Challenge #3
Friday, April 13, 2012

Yo. Lukey here. Returning yet again in my fight to be Cathay Cineleisure's Next Online Sensation (although it's more like a losing fight... but like how they say, if you want to do something, you must do it til the very end, so I'm not giving up yet!).

To be honest, I was very close to pulling out from the competition due to the 3000 word report that I have to submit by tonight itself, and not to mention my involvement with NUS's Dance Uncensored and a additional pile of additional hall commitments that I had to settle by this week. Stuff like organizing my block supper, attending my first meeting with my hall's SCRC left very little space in my schedule for me to head down to Cineleisure to shoot this video.

Furthermore, the impending exams week in NUS also gave me a lot of trouble in finding someone to help me with the video production.

"Yes it was this close to Lukey quitting"

Thankfully, the folks at Nuffnang and Cathay were kind enough to let me extend the deadline so here's Lukey trying to be a Fashionista! I say trying because for my past life, I have spent most of it sitting in front of the computer instead of buying clothes and looking fashionable so this was definitely one big hell of a challenge for me.

But still, produced a fashion video I did (although it pales in comparison with other contestants) and below it is! Do enjoy! Will continue my rantings after the video.

So yep, I got four hauls (a watch, a t-shirt, a fedora and a berms) in total from my one day forever alone shopping spree at Cineleisure. To be honest, I was quite nervous when I first stepped into the first shop I visited because I've never really done any real life shopping alone before. It's quite embarrassing but you have to forgive me, I'm a guy you see. It's like we have a genetic flaw that makes us hate shopping.

Still, adrenaline got the better of me and I managed to complete this challenge without really embarrassing myself. Except for the time where I had to return the pants I was trying because I did not see the prize, but other than that, everything else went smoothly. I have my mother and sister to thank for that though, because as I was busy hunting for my clothes, their past advices on shopping tips kept reverberating through my head

Turns out all the items I got somehow matched perfectly too. Quite the achievement, I must say.

Not only that, I was lucky too. Stores like New Urban Male was having 50% discount storewide which helped to ease a lot of pressure from my pocket. Not only that, they also had a wide selection of funny T-shirts like the one I bought. There's one for Wordpress, another for Tumblr and even one for Youtube. Social media junkies like me would love those shirts.

To add to that, the push carts located around the mall are also treasure troves on their own. You can get almost everything at a very cheap prize. Sadly most of the items cater to girls but I still managed to picked up a 5 dollars watch from my hunting. Perhaps I have the shopping talent which I am not aware of.

Long story short, in contrast with what I've expected, shopping in Cineleisure is actually quite fun! Maybe I'll go there buy another awesome T-shirt when I have the time. But for now, vote for me! Needing all the votes I can get for this competition. Vote at http://www.nuffnang.com.sg/cineleisure-next-online-sensation/vote/

And before I take my leave, let me end off by saying...

Can I change the famous to handsome instead? Sounds much nicer

Like QiuQiu said, "Me Fashionista!"
